Health Education of Stress Management to Prevent Adolescent Maladaptive Behavior During Growth and Development

Abstract

We identified that the important proplem of partners involving in this
activity is self-esteem. The purpose of this community partnership program is to apply
stress management to teenagers who have a high risk of maladaptive behavior due to
changes in growth and development transitions. Methods: We assisstent 62 teenagers to
prevent maladaptive attitudes, and behaviors in overcoming their problems. Coaching
was carried out four activities in each group consisting of 16 teenagers in each group. The
tools used in this activity are modules and leaflets. The activity strategy using lectures,
role play and demonstrations provides stress management therapy through positive
thinking relaxation therapy. Results: Self-concept assessment on adolescents showed
that 45 adolescents (72%) had positive self-concepts and 17 (27%) had negative self-
concepts. The group of teenagers who had a negative self-concept perception of 17 people
was further explored specifically through in-depth interviews. After being given stress
management therapy, adolescents who generally initially had a low self-esteem
perception became self-aware and motivated. Conclusion: This community service
activity of mentoring teenagers in a junior high school has succeeded in increasing the
self-esteem of teenagers who have negative perceptions about themselves. Suggestions
that are recommended in future service activities are to assist in creativity and talent in
teenagers
