Abstract
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, the Lord of the worlds, for His blessings, guidance, and mercy that have enabled us to gather for the 4th International Conference on Language, Literature, and Their Teaching (ICoLLiT 2025). Peace and blessings be upon our noble Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, his family, his companions, and all those who
follow his guidance until the end of time.
It is with great honor and profound gratitude that I welcome you to ICoLLiT 2025, held on 12 June 2025 in a hybrid format, both via Zoom and in-person at the Siti Walidah Building, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Bringing together scholars, educators, researchers, and practitioners from around the world, this year's conference is centered on the theme "Revitalizing Literacy Culture", inviting meaningful reflection on the evolving role of literacy in contemporary society. In our time, literacy has moved beyond the traditional skills of reading, writing, and arithmetic. It now encompasses the ability to interpret, create, and communicate across languages, images, numeracy, digital media, and cultural symbols. This broadened understanding of literacy empowers individuals to make informed decisions, think critically, and participate actively in cultural and civic life. ICoLLiT 2025 provides an interdisciplinary platform for sharing insights, advancing research, and fostering innovations that support these ideals.
We are honored to welcome distinguished keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Marian Klamer of Leiden University, whose expertise in linguistic anthropology will offer deep cultural perspectives; Dr. Ganjar Harimansyah, S.S., M.Hum. from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, with extensive experience in language and literary development; Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum. of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta; and Dr. Misita Anwar of Monash University, each contributing unique scholarly and pedagogical insights. The conference addresses diverse topics, including innovative pedagogy for the VUCA era; revitalizing local wisdom in language education; integrating artificial intelligence into learning; developing multimodal literacy; preserving local languages; and promoting Indonesian classical literature in the digital age. These discussions are vital in navigating an era of rapid change while safeguarding our cultural heritage.
On behalf of the organizing committee, I extend heartfelt appreciation to all participants, presenters, reviewers, and institutional partners. May Allah SWT bless our endeavors, guide our steps, and make ICoLLiT 2025 a meaningful milestone in fostering a literacy culture that is rooted in values, open to innovation, and beneficial to all.
